Monster Hunter 3 (tri~) has been developed exclusively for the Nintendo Wii console. It's release date is sometime in March of 2010 according to this. Previous speculation was that the game would also be featured on the Playstation 3 System, but this has been denied by Capcom. Capcom's original plans were to release the game on PS3, but decided to convert to the Nintendo Wii system, many fans were initially upset by this blow, but where then pacified when the knowledge that it would be possible to play with a Classic Controller as well as the expected WiiMote and Nunchuk. (Game Cube Controller doesn't work).

Monster Hunter 3, or Tri, is being redesigned from the ground up to include a dynamic living environment where the monster AI has been improved significantly. Creatures will no longer be restrained to 'spawn points' and instead move freely around the map just as the player can. This redesign has also included the world and all of its creatures to be scrapped and restarted as well, rather than building up on the existing world, the only creatures known to carry over from previous titles are the fire wyverns Rathian and Rathalos, and the desert wyvern Diablos. As well as this there are also the lesser minions Popo and Kelbi.

The monsters will now have stamina just like you do and will eat other monsters to restore theirs as opposed to you eating rations and steaks

New gameplay design allows hunters to swim and explore deep caves which require a torch to see in, sharks roam the dark deep waters as well as a new mysterious dragon.

The game will have a multiplayer for offline built in so two players could play on a horizontal splitscreen, the control will be with either the wii remote and nunchuk or the classic controller.

[edit] New Weapons

There are a number of new weapons including the Switch Axe and the Medium Bowgun. The Switch Axe is part Great Sword and part slashing Hammer. It has a rechargeable power canister to create an electric, fire, paralysis or ice current which can cause additional elemental damage. The Medium Bowgun is more accurate than the Heavy Bowgun, although not as strong. It has similar features and allows for easier manoeuvrability than the Heavy Bowgun.

[edit] New Monsters

1. Another variation of the prey type monsters
1a. The alpha male counterpart of the first monster
2. A large scale covered bird
3. A serpent like monster

Currently, 3 new types of monsters have been introduced via a few screenshots and a trailer. The names or any specific detail rather than the appearance have been given for the monsters.

The first monster is a prey type, similar to that of a Velociprey or Genprey and also partners with a similar version that is an Alpha male counterpart of that monster, similar to that of Velocidrome or Gendrome. In comparison, both are purplish in colour, but with the alpha male having frills and a red coloured lining on it's skin. It also has much longer claws than they prey, and also has large spikes on it's tail. When in comparison with a gameplay picture, the alpha male is considerably bigger than that of the smaller prey version.

Dos Jagie's (the drome) Ecology: The Dos Jagie is the head of a Jagie pack. At a certain age, males usually leave the pack to live on their own for a period of time before returning to vie for the right to be leader. They have a very commanding presence, and it is said that they can call and issue complex orders to their packs with their barks.

The second monsters is similar to a Hypnocatrice, bearing the resemblance to a large bird. Rather than being coated in feathers, it is covered in scales and appears green, and has small jagged teeth. It has large throat sac, which sports a bright red colour, and appears constantly enlarged. This is to improve the effect of its screech or cry, where noise seems to be the main method of attack for this monster. This Monster has rock like claws in-which it slams together to create sparks. It then jumps toward the hunter and creates explosions of fire. It also uses a sludge or poison spit for of projectile, much like a wyvern's fireball. It uses the large throat sac to mimic the roars and cries of other monsters, thus calling them to it's aid. It's location appears to be in high up places, important locations, such as the tower, as well as in a swamp or forest.

Quru Pecco's Ecology: A uniquely colorful, medium-sized bird wyvern. The Quru Pecco is known for the specialized sound-amplification adaptations in its chest area and on the top of its head, which it uses to mimic the calls of a variety of monsters. When it feels threatened, it will mimic the call of a large wyvern and then run and hide at the first chance it gets. However, I is possible to interfere with its call by introducing another loud sound into the mix.

The third new monster is a water wyvern, shaped similar to a picene, only that it has much larger scales and claws like a wyvern. It is serpent like and has been shown to swim rather gracefully in water and has been dubbed "King of the waters". It has been confirmed that this monster can fight outside of water, so the player will be able to fight it on land or in the water. "The King of the Seas is believed to have lightning abilities due to footage of it giving out what appears to be lightning.

Lagiacrus's Ecology: A large water monster that rules the deep, vast oceans and is feared by many a seafarer. It sits comfortably at the top of the oceanic food chain. It's capable of producing sea water boiling giant waves of electricity in the outer layer of its skin, which it stores in a specialized organ in its dorsal until it's ready to be used. It is known to to come ashore to regain its strength after discharging or to rest when it's tired.

Still not much information has been found about these new monsters. Speculations as to whether this new monster is a variation of the old monster "Fatalis" have not yet been confirmed.

The Kelbi also makes a return in Monster Hunter 3, possibly due to the fact that it's materials are used to make important items, such as the Ancient Potion.

The monsters that are featured in Monster Hunter 3 include:
