HabitatsVolcano Swamp
First AppearanceMonster Hunter Freedom 2

Shogun Ceanataur (Shogun Gizami) is a Carapaceon, like Daimyo Hermitaur, that dwells in the volcanic belt and the marshlands of the Swamp.

The monster features two large, scythe-like, folding claws that unfold when Shogun Ceanataur enters rage mode. During this time, he is incredibly dangerous to the unprepared. With an incredibly long reach and lighting speed, Shogun is very unpredictable. His long claws allow him to "pierce volcanic bedrock and travel along ceilings", often taking hunters by surprise by sprining out from under their feet, or leaping down onto them from the ceiling.

Shogun's long claws can be broken off, this will give hunters an advantage, not having to worry about taking extra precautions to avoid Shogun's lethal reach but still be cautious because the shogun ceanataur will be in rage mode for the rest of the fight. Shogun Ceanataur will still retain his lighting quick speed and unpredictable actions during rage mode, however, so never underestimate him!

[edit] Shogun's Shells

Shogun Ceanataur, like Daimyo Hermitaur, features varying shells.

Shogun has 3 potential shells -

  • A Gravios Skull
  • A conical shell, much like the sort one might find on a beach, only much, much larger!
  • A wyvern's skull, worn down until it is unrecognizable.Sometimes, hunter may think it as a lavasioth/volcanos shell.

When Shogun takes enough damage to his shell, it will break off, it will not fracture like Daimyo's, it will actually break off. When this happens, Shogun will tunnel underground and exit the area to retrieve a new shell to protect his rear end. This will only happen once, however, so Shogun is limited to two shells. After the second shell is broken off, Shogun will fight on with his rear exposed. When weakened enough to capture, the Shogun will make a choking noise and purple bubbles foam from its mouth.
