Yian Kut-Ku is a small, avian, Bird Wyvern. It is most notable for it's pink shell and large ears which splay open when angered. Kut-Kus are encountered fairly early on in the game(s) and are often the first wyvern that hunters will face. Yian Kut-Ku is native to the Swamp, Jungle, and Forest zones.

[edit] Game Description

A bird-like wyvern with a huge beak and large ears that splay open when it is angered. With its sensitive hearing it dislikes loud noises. It is smaller but faster than other wyverns.

[edit] Areas known to go to...

  • Jungle (Where you'll first encounter one)
  • Forest and Hills
  • Swamp.
  • Volcano (Online Only)

[edit] Player Info

Most Monster Hunter beginners have a lot of trouble with this wyvern. It is in fact the first real wyvern faced in Monster Hunter. Take your time when fighting this wyvern; it is weaker than you think. It is most simple if you stay frosty, evade all it's attack moves, sonic bombs pwn him, later you'll regret about even thinking he's HARD lol!

[edit] Other fighting styles

Paintball said monster. Do it every time, especially if said monster can fly. If you're using a bladed weapon (e.g. Longsword), break the ears then aim for the chest. If impact then triple pound/super pound the head until KO, then keep triple pounding. Kut-Ku's speed may prove overwhelming for new players, especially on slower weapons. Recognising this, recommended weapons are Longsword and Hammer. Be patient, wait for Kut-Ku to taunt, and aim for the head/chest. If he starts to tailwhip, roll to your right as he will do this move in a circle. REMEMBER: His tailwhip always spins from your right to your left (His left to his right). After you smack his face in he'll jump up and down like a dumb, signaling his rage mode. You can take trample damage if you're near his feet during the animation, so care. During rage, his attacks are faster; they do way more damage; and he'll be more likely to charge you. A way to telegraph a charge is by looking at how fast he turns to face you; a fast turn will most likely mean a charge. Most of the time. If he is about to charge roll through him, albeit more risky, or sideways (whichever side of him is closer to you). Otherwise it's the same thing, just faster. His ears will fold back when he's ready for capture, and near death.

Kut-Ku is likely to be your first serious monster, and is a great way to practice weapon mechanics and positioning.

[edit] Weakness (elements)

The main weaknesses for the Yian Kut-Ku are: Water, Ice, sound, and Thunder, so when against the Yian Kut-Ku try to use weapons in those elements. Its greatest weakness to water is on the neck, and the weakspots are the Head, Stomach and Wings for raw damage.

[edit] Attacks:

  • Tail Whip: The Kut-Ku turns, attacking with It's tail.
  • Peck: The Kut-Ku could either peck where it is, or can leap forward and peck.
  • Bite: The Kut-Ku turns while he bites, not straight foward.
  • Fire cloud spurt: The Kut-Ku "spits", throwing a fiery projectile.
  • Charge: The Kut-Ku runs forward, sometimes, spitting "fire spit" on either side of him while he does.
  • Ground Scratch: The Kut-Ku scratches the ground, which only hurts when you are standing directly under him.

[edit] Blue Yian Kut-Ku

The Blue Yian Kut-Ku is a blue subspecies of the Yian Kut-Ku found for the first time in Monster Hunter Freedom. Although they are usually smaller than their pink counterparts, they are more aggresive and stronger. They share an evolutionary lineage with the Yian Garuga. The Blue Yian Kut-Ku behaves in almost the same way as the normal Yian Kut-Ku. They are known to flee more though, and use their fireball attack more often. The weakest spot on the Blue Yian Kut-Ku is the wings. They are most affected by weapons with Water damage. Their ears are very sensitive, so throwing a sonic bomb at it would cause it to get dizzied. Any kind of explosive has the same effect, but be warned, after being dizzied the Blue Yian Kut Ku will be enraged no matter how little damage you've dealt. Also be aware that if you throw a sonic bomb at any Yian Kut Ku there will be a chance of it dropping something (a small shining light). Blue Yian Kut-Ku materials are used to make strong Bowguns such as the Blue Yian Kut-Ku Cannon, a powerful version of the Yian Kut-Ku Cannon. The Blue Yian Kut Ku, however, is quite timid and relatively easy to defeat.
